Gregory Craig

Chief Executive Officer

Gregory Craig was named Chief Executive Officer of Star Energy Partners in 2015. He has held Chairman and CEO positions of both publicly traded and privately held energy companies and been a trusted advisor in the energy industry for decades.

As Chairman of Anahau Energy and CEO of Inupiat Energy Partners, an investor in Anahau Energy, Craig provided strategic guidance on governance, financial and credit structures, as well as marketing. Previously, Craig was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Commerce Energy, a publicly listed natural gas and electricity retailer. He also served as CEO of Macquarie Cook Energy (formerly Cook Inlet Energy Supply) post acquisition by Macquarie Bank Limited. Craig founded Cook Inlet Energy Supply, and under his leadership, Cook Inlet grew to become one of the nation’s largest energy trading and marketing company, with over $3billion in annual revenues.

Additionally, Craig has been active in a variety of advisory boards and councils, including advising President Bill Clinton as a member of the President’s Export Council and numerous US Energy Secretaries as part of the National Petroleum Council. Additionally, he serves as Chairman of the Price Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management, is Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Anderson, and is a board member and executive committee member of Junior Achievement.

Mr. Craig received his BA from University of Alaska and his MBA from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. He lives in Los Angeles and has one daughter.

 

 

Nicholas Bain

Executive Vice President

Nicholas Bain joined Star Energy Partners as Executive Vice President in 2015 to empower customers to make the smartest, best energy choices for themselves, for the country and the world. Since 2009, Bain served as CEO of Graphite Energy in Sydney, Australia, leading the development of thermal storage technology and project development in the US and Australia.

Bain has been involved in the development of new energy retail concepts in both Australia and the US, combining BPO technology and access to renewable and wholesale generation to deliver lower cost power for mass market consumers.

Prior to founding Graphite Energy, Bain held several positions at Allco over a 17 year career including head of infrastructure at Allco Finance Group. He was responsible for infrastructure asset classes and led financing of over $5 billion worth of assets. In 2005, he established Allco Wind Energy which undertook the development of wind assets in the US, Europe and Australia; the most important of which was the 3,000MW Alta wind energy development at Tehachapi in California and the negotiation of a 1,500MW PPA with Southern California Edison. He had previously held responsibility for Allco’s aviation operating leasing and financing business, and capital markets activities.

Until 1991, Mr Bain was head of capital markets in Australia for Fay, Richwhite and from 1979 to 1984 was a chartered accountant in Adelaide and Sydney, specializing in tax advice and audit services.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accountancy at the Institute of South Australia in Adelaide. Born in Naracoorte, South Australia, Bain and his wife, Kate, have three grown daughters.

 

 

David Cass

Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer of Star Energy Partners, David Cass, CFA oversees Star’s finance and accounting functions.

Before joining Star Energy in 2015, Cass was vice president at Saybrook Capital, a middle-market private equity firm. He served on the board and was responsible for business operations at several portfolio companies, and managed investments across multiple industries.

Cass is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. David Cass is a CFA® charterholder.
